“Anyone who
stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning
stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.” - Henry Ford
I told my
boy, “don’t be a fool like others, if there is anything that is not clear to
you, don’t be too shy or scared to ask you teachers, that is what you are
paying for.” While you can learn by listening, you can learn even more and
better by asking. And I gave him more back-up, “if any teacher consider asking
for what you don’t know to be rude, don’t hesitate to let me know.” “A man who
asks is a fool for five minutes. A man who never asks is a fool for life.” -
Chinese Proverb.
Learning
is one of the sources of building courage and retaining your youthfulness at
any stage of life; it is advisable to learn a little about a lot of things out
of your area of specialization. Every creature learns differently, but one form
of learning that is more effective is to get involved. According to Benjamin
Franklin, he says “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me
and I learn.” It’s not all occasion we can practically get involved in the
learning process, if that is the case, don’t hesitate to ask what you don’t
know, it’s a form of getting informed in the learning process.
I agreed
with Robert A. Heinlein when he says “I never learned from a man who agreed
with me.” Who never like to be the man everyone listen to, but if they always
agreed with you all the time, you can never learn from them, they do. William
Henry Gates III (Bill Gate) co-founder of the Microsoft Corporation and an
American business magnate, investor, author and philanthropist is worth
listening to on this view. He says, “Your most unhappy customers are your
greatest source of learning.” Amateur entrepreneur hate that, but the wise one
learn from them to get better, are you one of them?
